Trying to drill a nail hole in a strap that's bent out will cause the drill bit to walk off of the strap. Using a sledge hammer to bring the metal strap tight before drilling ensures a clean tight hole to nail! Hire a contractor who takes the time to do it right!

If you don't pre-drill the top plate of the wall, you could split the wood, when driving in the screws! Hire someone who takes the time to do it correctly, as seen in the video here:
